TVEP's Zero Tolerance Village Alliance Project

TVEP's Zero Tolerance Village Alliance (ZTVA) project is getting international attention as a strategy for positive behavior change.  Results of their recently completed pilot will soon be published in international scientific journals.  The University of Pennsylvania has applied to USAID/WHO for funding to test the model over a period of three years.  The concept note was approved, and the research team, consisting of UPENN, the Medical Research Council and the University of Pretoria met with TVEP representatives to plan for the full proposal.  Let's all hope the grant is awarded to our wonderful Empowerment Team!  We'll keep you posted.See More

Children's ARV Workshop

Last month’s ARV children’s workshop revealed some encouraging insight into the older students’ plans for the future. A lively discussion uncovered many dreams of being farmers, bakers, seamstress and other worthwhile trades and professions. We love that they are contemplating productive futures! HFL would love to encourage sustainable vocations for these youngsters. Career exploration and training through a variety of workshops is currently being explored. More to come!See More

TVEP IN NEED OF SKILLED WORKERS

We are passing along a posting from The Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Program concerning a request for “Volunteers.”  Interesting to note that in South Africa, “volunteering” is considered a paid position, albeit minimal pay, but some stipend is expected.  TVEP’s posting reads: Non-profit rights-based organization fighting child & gender violence in rural Limpopo, South Africa, seeks two or three volunteers with practical skills in the fields of IT development and maintenance, communications, and office management.  The objective is to transfer skills and build the capacity of local staff and volunteers, so must be willing to commit to a contract of at least one year, preferably two. Please contact us if you would like more information or have any ideas on how to better fund a regular position.See More
